Pygmy/Dwarf Goats
We are wanting to move into purebred goats, so have decided to try and sell off our current herd. They are a mix of pygmy and nigerian dwarf for the most part, I have tried to provide as much information as possible in the descriptions below. We have not used wormers or other vaccinations generally in the three years we have been raising goats and have not noticed any problems. We wether our boys with an elastrator and give them a tetanus antitoxin at that time. Hooves will be trimmed prior to your taking delivery. Will be willing to negotiate prices if you are purchasing several goats. It is possible delivery could be arranged, but this would need to be discussed and may incur an additional fee. Cash is preferred, but I am able to take Paypal, if you would be willing to cover the associated fees (3%). The kids from this year are a little wild, as we
did not have as much time to spend acclimating them as in years past, but if kept in a smaller area and given attention and treats, they should become more comfortable around people. The older goats are for the most part quite comfortable with us, and many are very affectionate
We keep our bucks separated from the girls but have had a few breakouts, most recently the end of April, as well as some mystery kids (did they make it happen despite a separating fence? I have no idea), so it is possible that females have been bred. With pygmy goats it is often hard to tell they are pregnant until they are very far along, and sometimes not even then. These are not registered animals. Most of the goats are friendly, but since we have so many they don't get as much individual attention. With some time and a few treats they should be very sweet. I have not attempted to milk any of these goats, but all have been good mothers (where noted that they have had kids). Our original stock consisted of three pygmy females (Sundae, Doodle, Piper), a nigerian dwarf female (Sprite), and a pygmy male. Doodle had two kids a few months after we got her, one pygmy female (Canoodle) and a buck (Dude) who appears to have quite a bit of nubian in him, so probably different fathers. As I mentioned, we had a few busted fence breedings, so I am not 100% sure of the fathers of the most recent kids; some seem to have a little nubian in them. We do not own horses, but our neighbors on either side do, and the goats have not been bothered by their presence ever. They are not bad about trying to break out of their fenced in area, and none of them are jumpers, though they do like to get on top of tall objects.
Does
Piper - born July 2008, had 2 buck kids April 2010. Parents unknown, pygmy, white with black markings. $100
Doodle - born May 2006, parents unknown, pygmy. She had Canoodle and the Dude
in November 2009 without incident, but had two miscarriages after that,
so I have not attempted to breed her recently. She is the brown goat with the curling horn, no idea about that, it has been like that since we got her. She can be very sweet,
but is shy sometimes; she likes to have her head scratched. I will only
sell her to a nice home, not for meat; if you choose to
breed her I can provide details on her history so you can make an
informed decision. $75
Sprite - born April 2008, nigerian dwarf. She has been bred twice, and both times had four kids (four does, then three does and a buck). She has 4 teats, which seems to work out for her when raising her kids; I have not tried milking her so am not sure what difficulty this might present, but she seems like she produces a great deal of milk. She is incredibly sweet and an excellent mother. $150
Canoodle - born November 2009, pygmy, had 3 kids (two female, one male) February 2011. She is on the small side, so if you plan to breed her it should only be to small breed bucks, though her prior delivery went smoothly. Mother Doodle, father unknown; pygmy. Her son Carl III is being sold as a wether. $100
Fiddle - born April 2010, pygmy/dwarf; had one doe kid February 2012 (black with white markings, also for sale, $100). Mother Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father Junior (pygmy). Her mother has regularly born four kids, 3 years in a row. $125
Faddle - born April 2010, pygmy/dwarf. Mother
Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father Junior (pygmy). Her mother has regularly
born four kids, 3 years in a row. $125
Sweet Pea - born April 2010, pygmy/dwarf; had three buck kids April 2012 (also for sale, as wethers, $40 each, these picture were taken two months ago, so they are larger now). The kids are still nursing, but can be separated sometime in June. Mother
Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father Junior (pygmy). Her mother has regularly
born four kids, 3 years in a row. $150
Mahogany - born April 2010, pygmy/dwarf; had three doe kids and one buck April 2012
(also for sale, black with white ear tips, $100 each). The buck and one doe died at about two weeks, I believe they had caught pneumonia; the remaining two kids are active and well. I think the sick kids may have been due to the drought last year and poorer hay quality, as we had more problems than usual with our spring kids; this seemed to be the case with many goat owners this year. Mother
Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father Junior (pygmy). Her mother Sprite has regularly
born four kids, 3 years in a row. Mahogany is a real sweetheart and I was hesitant to even list her; I really want her to go to a nice home. Her kids are a little wild, as are all the kids from this year, as we did not have as much time to spend acclimating them as in years past. $150
Bambi - born March 2011. Mother
Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father uncertain (Buster or Dude). Her mother has regularly
born four kids, 3 years in a row. $125
Bandita - born March 2011. Mother
Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father uncertain (Buster or Dude). Her mother has regularly
born four kids, 3 years in a row. She is a bit wild, and on the small side, but seems willing to be bred soon. $100
Mopsy - born March 2011. Mother
Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father uncertain (Buster or Dude). Her mother has regularly
born four kids, 3 years in a row. She had a buck and a doe kid in April, both also available, though no pictures at the moment. The boy is a wether, but he is looking kind of bucky - I may have missed one of his testicles when we banded him. He is a pale grey with black markings, $40. The girl is a medium brown, $100. They were treated for joint/naval ill when there were about three weeks old, first with oxytetracycline, which didn't seem to work, so we switched to penicillin. They are doing well now and have not been exhibiting any signs of lameness. Pretty sure Mopsy's father is the Dude, who I think is half Nubian. $150
Sundae - born June 2008, parents unknown, pygmy. She has had a few kiddings with us, but she has also had difficulties with kiddings; Her kids this year include a boy, wethered, black $40, and a doe, light grey/tan, $100. Sundae should probably not be bred again (hence the reduced price). She is very friendly however, loves attention and would make an excellent companion. I will only sell her to a nice home, not for meat; if you choose to breed her I can provide details on her history so you can make an informed decision. $75
Wethers - for meat or pets. We do not have the knowledge or much time at this moment to butcher our wethers; I hope if this is what you want them for, they will be treated as humanely as possible.
Carl I - born March 2010, mother Sundae, father Junior. $50
Carl II (aka Pip) - born April 2010, mother Piper, father Junior. $50
Carl III - born February 2011, mother Canoodle, father Buster. On the small side. $40
Sweet Pea's kids - born April 2012, $40 each (3) (pictured below Sweet Pea's entry above)
Sundae's boy - born March 2012, $40 (pictured with Sundae above)
Mopsy's boy - born April 2012, $40 (no picture at this time)
Bucks
As bucks go, ours are pretty nice. The Dude can be a real sweetheart when not in rut. Buddy is very laid back. Buster is okay, though his nickname is Stinky. Of course, at the moment, they are in their season and acting and smelling as bucks do.
The Dude - born November 2009, pygmy/nubian?. Doodle was apparently already bred when we bought her. She had Canoodle, definitely a pygmy, and the Dude, who appears to be half nubian (I know the people we purchased from had a nubian buck). He is very sweet as bucks go, and I am certain he is the father of many kids born this year. I would caution that he only be bred to larger females, as we had one small doe that had accidentally been bred, by him I am sure, and she was quite small, despite being well over a year old, and died in labor this spring. This is the only time we had such an incident occur. $100
Buster - born April 2010, mother Piper, father Junior. The father of this guy, and many others here, was sold a while ago and I do not have pictures. He looked pretty much exactly like Buster (aka Junior Junior). He is a good enough pygmy buck, not terribly friendly but also not incredibly annoying either. I call him Stinky, and he is quite the stinky, dirty buck at the moment. $50
Buddy - born March 2011. Mother
Sprite (nigerian dwarf), father uncertain (Buster or Dude). His mother has regularly
born four kids, 3 years in a row. He is quite docile and not nearly as destructive as our other bucks, though I am sure if he was the only buck, he would accomplish his duties no problem, he just doesn't compete for the ladies' affections as aggressively as the other boys. $75
